Crocheting with packing twine

Dear users, dear authors,
What kinds of projects is packing twine suitable for? Can it only be used for crochet, or can it also be used for knitting? What material is packing twine usually made of?

I’ve already crocheted a tiny little basket, and right now I have a strap for a small bag in my crochet basket.

I can only crochet a few rows at a time—my hands start to hurt very quickly. The string is very stiff and scratchy. But I hope the strap will turn out sturdier than if I’d used the knitting mill. 

I’ve crocheted coasters and little baskets out of packaging twine.
I’m currently working on a pattern for them. :-)
My twine is made from scraps from the textile industry and is pleasant to crochet with.
However, it’s also a bit bulky, so you have to take little breaks now and then while crocheting. 

"Regular" packaging twine, which you can easily find in supermarkets, is usually made of jute.
I’ve personally used packaging twine in the bottom of a bag before. To do this, you simply let the twine “run along” (meaning you crochet around the twine using your regular yarn). This makes the bottom relatively sturdy, and the crocheted bag remains washable ;-)

Great idea for reinforcing the bottom.
