It depends on the project, Josefa. For some sewing projects, I can finish them in a day—including cutting out the pieces—but for others, I need several days; it also depends on how I’m feeling. When it comes to knitting, it can take me months to finish a project :-)
Oh, that varies quite a bit and also depends on how thorough the person working on it is. If you think you’ll just do it on the side, it usually takes longer. It’s only as you’re working on it that little questions pop up, which need to be cleared up bit by bit. And some projects just flow right from the idea in your head into your hands—then it goes really fast.
If you have a good, finished pattern, it goes faster, of course, because then the author has already cleared up all the questions beforehand ;-)
It really depends on how big or small the project is. Baby booties go pretty fast—you need less than 50 grams of yarn. A shawl with a total weight of 400 grams, though—that takes me a few days, even if I knit every afternoon.
Right now I’m crocheting pennants—I can easily finish one or two in an evening.
I have to admit, though, I never time how long something takes me. I often steal 5 or 10 minutes out of my day to knit a few rows. It’s not uncommon for me to say, “Yeah, just a minute—just this one more row…”
It varies a lot. For a sewn teddy bear, I need about 6 hours; crocheted animals can sometimes be finished faster, depending on their size.
Right now, I’m knitting another one of those cozy cat blankets for adults—the first one took me about 8 weeks. This second one might take a little less time, but not much. I can’t really put a number on it in hours—there are days when I don’t knit at all, on others maybe just an hour, and on still others 4 or 5 hours.
The only thing that’s always the same is that I always want to be doing something different. When I’m knitting something bigger like this, I’d rather be crocheting little animals, and vice versa. :-))
I’ve been working on my current project (soul warmer) since the beginning of the month.
In addition to knitting, I’m also taking notes and writing parts of the pattern.
Most of my projects take one to two months.
I don’t do many small projects. If I do, they’re usually finished in a weekend or a week.
The exception was a tablecloth, which took me a good half a year to complete.
Oh, I’m one of the ultra-slow ones. Sewing is definitely the fastest, of course, but when it comes to knitting, I’m really a total snail ^^'. I tend to set a project aside every now and then, focus on other things, until the urge strikes me again. There are also projects I finish very quickly, but that’s pretty rare. With big projects, I sometimes find it hard to stick with them until the end if I get another idea that catches my interest along the way. But I’m practicing putting those new ideas on the “want to do later” pile and focusing on the project I’m currently working on. Otherwise, I’ll never get anywhere, and in the end, it’s worth it once you’ve finished the project :).
Don’t be surprised—I’m not new here; I just haven’t been online for a very long time and changed my username in the meantime. It used to be naehskapaden—now it’s Refugium_Creativum. Since I don’t just sew, but also love to knit and crochet just as much, I thought this name would be a better fit :).
