Are knitting needles always blunt, or are there also pointed ones?

There are both blunt and pointed knitting needles.

The pointed ones are used for lace knitting.

No, Josefa—the tips are still rounded, they just taper much more sharply toward the tip. I really like knitting with them because they make it easier to insert the needle into a stitch.
