Looking for wire for a hat from an English pattern

Hi everyone,

I’m currently crocheting a hat from an English pattern:

For this I need "1/16 inch gauge galvanized steel uncoated wire rope".

According to Google Translate, that would be:
1.6 mm thick uncoated wire rope made of galvanized steel. 

I can find plenty of wire, and in various types too. Does anyone know about this and can recommend a shop or wire, or give me any other tips?

Of course, you could also go to a craft store and ask there. Maybe they can help you out.

Don’t you have a hardware store nearby? They have wire in all thicknesses and colors in the electrical department. My husband, who’s a DIY enthusiast, has plenty, but that wouldn’t help you.

there’s a special type of hat wire for hats. For my new design, I just used a cotton-covered hat wire with a diameter of 1 mm. That thickness is more than enough. You can find it at millinery or hat supply stores. Otherwise, I’d recommend aluminum wire with a smaller diameter. 1.6 mm seems pretty thick to me.
