how do you crochet or knit a waffle pattern, and which technique works better?

Who likes waffle patterns?

I’ve never crocheted one before, but I think dishcloths or towels with this pattern are really pretty.

Although this isn’t an ad, one of my best-selling shawls is crocheted using this pattern :-)

So it’s not just for dish towels or pot holders ;-)

I like the waffle pattern (crocheted) because it’s nice and dense and has a good “texture.” Plus, it’s really easy to work with, and you don’t have to think too much while crocheting...

Does the waffle pattern use a lot of yarn, roughly like a relief pattern?

There are different types of waffle patterns. When crocheting, you alternate between post double crochets and double crochets; when knitting, you alternate between knit stitches and purl stitches. This creates a textured, checkerboard-like pattern. As a result, you’ll use more yarn, since it’s a textured pattern.
