We’re currently looking into an alkaline diet and have just read that our usual oatmeal breakfast isn’t alkaline. So it produces acids in the body. To make it alkaline, you have to use sprouted oats. They’re much healthier, but also much more expensive.
Who among you is familiar with sprouted grains or sprouted oats and has experience with them? Does anyone eat them regularly for breakfast and have a nice recipe for me?
we have been eating muesli in the morning for a very long time, containing the following ingredients:
sprouted buckwheat
sprouted sunflower seeds
soaked in the evening and drained in the morning
- chopped walnuts
then one tablespoon of our own mix of dry ingredients, consisting of:
- chia seeds
- briefly ground flaxseed
- psyllium husks
For the two of us, we then add chopped fruit, for example:
- apple, banana, orange, or seasonal fruit from the garden
Then we top it up with a little water and let it soak for 10 minutes.
Sometimes we add puffed amaranth on top.
We also mix in 2 tablespoons of homemade yogurt.
This has been what suits our bodies best for quite some time, and our gut is happy about it too.
One more tip about the oats, if you don’t want to give them up. It can also be enough to soak the oats overnight.
We do the sprouting in a sprouting jar. We also sprout other sprouts in it and then eat them in salads or on bread.
If you have any more questions about it, I’ll be happy to answer.
On the subject of an alkaline diet:
Grains, especially if they are not whole grains, as well as sugar, are the foods that make the body the most acidic.
Vegetables and fruit are the main alkaline foods. That makes up 3/4 of our diet.
Thank you so much, dear Monika, for your detailed answer. I’ll experiment with it. This version is definitely healthy. I just need to work out the finer details. So far, we’ve also been eating muesli in the morning, just not made from sprouted grains. That’s new. I definitely don’t want to cook porridge every morning. I’m going to try the overnight version today and see if the sprouted oats are really soft the next day.
Dear Ina, they definitely soften up. And with the oatmeal, you don’t need to pour out the water the next morning. The oatmeal absorbs it completely.
You’ll figure out your favorite version—the one that tastes best to you or to all of you. We experimented for a long time, too, before settling on this mixture.
