Sewing clothes: Any tips?

Do you have any tips for sewing clothes? 

First, you should know exactly what you want and what style suits you. Just because something is trendy or hip doesn’t mean it’s something you can actually wear. Then, you should get your measurements taken accurately to make sure you choose the right size for the pattern you want to sew. Choosing the right fabric is also important—do you want something casual and comfortable, or something you’d wear to the office or for a stroll through town? Jeans actually work for most people, and thankfully, they’ve become socially acceptable by now. But they aren’t necessarily appropriate for the theater—there, a pair of elegant dress pants with a matching top and blazer always looks more elegant and chic. Once everything’s been figured out in advance, nothing stands in the way of the joy of sewing. It’s also important to consider what sewing supplies I’ll need, such as fusible interfacing, because for some items it’s important and helpful to press the neckline and sleeve cap with a light fusible interfacing—this prevents puckering and other issues. Even with a shirt, blouse, or jacket, it’s beneficial to press the button placket with interfacing beforehand. This also gives the garment better *structure*.
In any case, before you start sewing, you should have everything prepared so that you can sew continuously without having to stop in the middle to realize, “Oh, I’m missing the interfaced collar” or “I don’t have the color-matching zipper or buttons.” Then lay everything out next to the machine in the order you want to sew it together—that way, you won’t have to search for individual pattern pieces but can simply take them off the stack one by one and assemble the garment.
