Crocheting figures: what do you need to keep in mind?

Do you have any tips and tricks for crocheting figures?

Would anyone like to share their thoughts on this?

The only thing that comes to mind right now is that you shouldn’t forget to stuff it before it gets too tight.
I’m very good at doing that when sewing, too—I regularly end up sewing the turning gap shut.

Use a hook 1–2 sizes smaller than the one recommended on the yarn label.

When changing colors, close the last stitch with the new yarn while there are still two loops on the hook, and then start the next round—this makes the transition smoother and prevents a step from forming.

Leave the yarn long enough to sew it on later! Nothing is more frustrating than having only a tiny stub left when sewing and breaking your fingers in the process.

When decreasing, I’ve gotten into the habit of inserting the hook only into the front loop. That way, you don’t end up with any “holes” at the end. And always stuff evenly and firmly!

What I’ve learned:

Be patient, especially with the details!

In the end, you’re glad when you’re in the home stretch. But sewing the pieces together and designing the faces are soooo important!
Beautiful eyes, a lovingly designed mouth... In the end, that can make all the difference in whether a figure looks beautiful or not :)
