Hello everyone,
My sister is going to become a grandma for the first time this summer. She and the other grandma are already busy knitting baby blankets. Of course, I’d also like to give the new parents something personal to celebrate the birth of their daughter. That’s why I’m putting my new sewing skills to use. I’m going to give them something for the little one to wear. Right now, the set consists of a pair of pants and a hat. Maybe I’ll add something else, since I still have some of that jersey fabric left. But it can’t be too complicated. I still have time until June.
Yes, the
hat
is brand new to my sewing repertoire. This is my first one, and it was very easy to sew. These are all things I’ve already learned from sewing the pants: cutting out the fabric, sewing the pieces together in the right places, and attaching the cuffs. It’s a beanie—a hat that isn’t tight-fitting—which I really like. Thanks to this shape and the stretchy cuff, it’ll grow with the child for a while, so it’s hard to get the size wrong.
The small floral pattern works very well for baby clothes because you can see a lot of the pattern. So take note: For baby clothes, it’s best to choose fabrics with small patterns! Pair it with a ribbing in a matching color. I could have used the light base color of the fabric for the ribbing, but that didn’t provide enough contrast for me. I think babies should feel free to wear a little color.
I wish all my readers a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards from Ina
