Scrap-busting to the max

So today I really went all out using up scraps. I had a ton of jersey scraps lying around that I couldn’t really do anything with anymore, so I sewed them together and made this colorful whale out of them. I even ended up with a little teddy bear, but that one still needs to be sewn.

Hi Inge, I think that’s a great way to use up those colorful scraps! Having so many different patterns is what makes it really interesting for kids. It’s something different—colorful and cheerful. I’m sure it’ll be given to a child in need. How big is it, roughly, and what did you stuff it with? It’s quite a big guy—there’s plenty of room inside.

It’s 40 cm long from the mouth to the tip of the tail, and 20 cm tall at the front of the head. The whale comes in 3 or 4 different sizes—this is the largest one. I’ve sewn smaller versions too; it makes a lovely gift for a toddler. The whale is stuffed with flame-retardant stuffing, which I always order online.

Then he really is a good size for cuddling! I would’ve picked the “big guy” too. Good thing you’re also making sure to use the right stuffing.
