Hey there!
There are way too many stuffed animals to count here 😉
As for real animals… 1 dog, 1 cat, 3 tortoises, 10 guppies, 1 catfish, 9 shrimp, 7 quails, and 21 chickens 😊
Wow, you guys really have a lot going on. Those are practically zoos.
We don’t have that many stuffed animals. We have a few plush toys for the grandkids to cuddle with. But other than that, we’ve got the real deal:
We have 6 chickens that lay eggs diligently every day. Then we have bright orange and yellow goldfish and frogs in our pond. Besides that—since we have a garden—there are, of course, birds, insects, butterflies, and bumblebees—the usual things you get when you have food to offer. We don’t
have dogs or cats because there are dogs and cats living in every house all around us. Every neighbor has at least one dog and at least one cat. Most of them have several, though. The barking when people walking their dogs pass by really annoys me. Some dogs are well-trained and don’t do that. But other yard dogs really have to bark at everyone who walks by.
Real, live animals: none, since I’m allergic to anything with fur or feathers.
As for cuddly toys, I only have 6 teddy bears and a little plush bunny left. When I moved 3 years ago, I got rid of my teddy bear collection and gave most of them away or donated them.
About 50,000 stuffed animals :D
(Of course, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. But definitely way too many!)
Other than that, we have 2 cats. Although I’m not sure if they’re actually sloths?!
And right now, there are hundreds of flies in the window shutter boxes. We just can’t get rid of them—they’re practically part of the family now :D
Back in the day, in our old house, we had a dog, 13 birds, 10 aquariums, a pond with goldfish, and a disabled hedgehog that could no longer be released into the wild. Little by little, they all crossed the Rainbow Bridge; we sold the house and downsized significantly so we could travel extensively for a while.
Everything worked out well—we don’t travel anymore, but we only have plush roommates now; there must be around 120 or 130 of them—I don’t know the exact number—and most of them are teddy bears. But there are also a few hippos, lions, and elephants, a giraffe, a tiger, a couple of bats, etc. etc.
I used to say that we’d get another dog as soon as we could no longer travel, but that was, of course, a mistake in reasoning. If you can no longer travel, you’re definitely not fit enough for a dog either.
Stuffed animals—countless. Even as a child, I preferred playing with stuffed animals rather than dolls. My dad was a doctor and had a patient who owned a stuffed animal factory. My sister and I would always get a stuffed animal for our birthdays, Easter, and Christmas. And woe betide us if one was ever missing! So we had a huge collection of stuffed animals that our friends envied. Once we were allowed to tour the factory and take home some leftover plush fabric afterward. That’s when we started sewing our own stuffed animals at home.
This love for making stuffed animals has stayed with me. However, I now prefer to crochet them. I give many away, but often I can’t bring myself to part with my favorites. And so the collection just keeps growing...
Real Animals—When I was little, we had a dog (a dachshund) and several guinea pigs, turtles, and hamsters. When my children were even younger, we had a cat. She lived to be 18 years old, but after that we didn’t want any more. Now my pets are limited to a few spiders and flies, and the occasional silverfish in the bathroom ;-))
Alongside our cat Nala, there are countless plush toys and a few stuffed animals all over our house, mostly teddy bears (very many of them belong to our son), but our younger daughter also has all sorts of others, from a guinea pig, marmot and ibex to a giant dog. I actually own almost only teddy bears, plus a kitten, a goat, and a mouse and a rabbit, both of which I knitted myself.
Stuffed animals: a lion (packed away in the basement). A large polar bear that used to belong to my daughter. A cat and a cat hand puppet from my mom.
The animals I crocheted myself are still around too.
I have 5 turtles that are currently hibernating and will then go back into the garden.
We have about 100 stuffed animals scattered throughout the house. Mostly frogs and sheep. But we also have everything from coatis and manatees to lots of NICI animals.
Last year, I had 1,435 stuffed animals just in my room alone; unfortunately, I didn’t manage to count them during this year’s big cleanup (which I’m still working on). But of course, quite a few more have been added since then—Build-A-Bear and Nici are really terrible for my meager budget. That doesn’t even include my mom’s stuffed animals (in the same house) or the ones I have at my boyfriend’s place (which I cuddle every night). On Saturday night, we bought carrots for the four bunnies at his place, and yes, he brought them over all by himself ;) He actually wanted to eat one of them, but then didn’t dare take the poor little thing’s food away. We’re just as bad—we adopt every single one we find in the bulk trash or by the dumpster. I just have a huge soft spot for stuffed animals, and they’re really part of the family—my kids.
Oh, and we have a dog, too—my little sister is a Border Collie and Golden Retriever mix, and she always helps me carry my Pokémon onto the couch when there’s a Pokémon show on. Every Saturday morning at 10 o’clock sharp, she gets up from the armchair and waits to do her job. In the summer, of course, she also takes the stuffed sheep out to the garden and brings them back inside in the evening—she is a herding dog, after all.
