Turn old into new! Here’s how items you’d normally throw away become beautiful, unique gift wrapping:

Chef Charly is crocheted around a cardboard tube (from toilet paper). You can remove the upper body and hide a little surprise inside. For example, you can give a voucher for a dinner together, a cooking class, or a special recipe of your own.

Empty jam jars make wonderful candy jars  to give as gifts at Easter. The lid is decorated with crocheted Easter bunnies and eggs. This way, you can easily rinse out the jars. Once the chocolate eggs have been eaten, you can fill the jars with string lights and light them up.

An empty box of chocolates is crocheted around as a little bus. You can then fill the box with candy or another surprise of your choice. And later, the bus can be used as a toy or decorative item.

Crocheted dishcloths instead of store-bought disposable ones. As dishcloths, pot holders, and in the salad bowl to absorb moisture—that’s where my dishcloths come in handy.

This pattern spans one row, and it’s a great way to use up even small scraps of yarn.

Here, I’ve crocheted around a can in spiral rounds using various yarn scraps. This way, pens, knitting needles, buttons, and much more find their place.

Crochet pattern for covering empty jars. Every now and then a jar gets empty, and in no time it’s crocheted to hold a bouquet of flowers to bring to a friend. These crocheted jars also look lovely as lanterns for a garden party or on a festively set table.

Upcycling – it’s a huge topic everywhere. Using existing resources responsibly and making something new out of something old. We, too, with our yarn projects, can do our part here. Here are my suggestions. I hope you enjoy looking at them and making them yourself.

Warm regards from Ina

Storage basket - 2 colorful little buckets

These pretty colorful pencil cups were once a 500 ml plastic yogurt tub. Of course, they still are, but covered all around, they look very decorative on any desk. They last for years and keep their shape. The colorful cover can be removed and washed. You don’t have to weave in any ends! So they’re perfect for leftover cotton yarn.

Board game with playing pieces

Another sustainable idea. Once crocheted, the game is indestructible. It’s washable, can be rolled up, and taken anywhere: to the beach, to Grandma’s, on vacation. The playing pieces are handmade, too. The game board and pieces go into a crocheted bag.

Insoles made from leftover felt yarn

My favorite idea for leftover felt yarn (or leftover pure wool). You can use it to DIY lovely warm and soft insoles for yourself and the whole family. They can be bright and colorful, too—the feet won’t care about the color. So don’t throw away any leftover yarn; knit warm soles from it instead. The washing machine takes care of the felting.

Live sustainably with

Kajitsu, a fruit and vegetable net made from 30 g cotton (filet yarn), which is washable and, above all, reusable.
Thanks to its size, the net fits anywhere.

The PDF file consists of 5 pages and is suitable for beginners with basic knowledge.

Fuji is a set consisting of makeup remover pads and a small laundry net.
Instead of having to buy new cotton pads every time, you can use the crocheted pads, which can easily be washed (collected in the net).
The makeup remover pads also have a slight massaging effect.
At the same time, you reduce your waste too.

The set requires 36 g cotton.

The PDF file contains two pages and is suitable for beginners with basic knowledge

Using up leftover yarn is also part of handling resources responsibly. With the pattern for the Rachel triangular shawl, you can crochet up lots of colorful leftover yarn.
You can find the pattern in my Blickfang-Design store.

You don’t have to throw away empty tea light holders—with a little floral foam and the right decorations around them, you can turn them into wonderful miniature gardens to give as gifts :-)

CDs you no longer need are great for upcycling projects.
Take, for example, this Bosnian-crocheted coaster with a CD inside.

With 12 grams of 6-ply yarn, this coaster is also quick to crochet.
The two-page PDF file is suitable for beginners with basic skills.

Here are two more knitted dishcloths with Easter motifs for you.

As a small gift or for an Easter basket, they bring a little spring into the kitchen. Knitted using only knit and purl stitches, they are also well suited for knitting beginners to gain experience for a larger project.

As a dishcloth, washcloth, pot holder, or trivet—their use in the kitchen and household is very versatile.
