Creating a Knitting Pattern from a Photo

Hello, everyone!

I found a beautiful vest online—or rather, three pictures of it. It was probably originally machine-knitted and sold commercially. But I’d really love to knit it myself—I just don’t know how to go about it. Maybe someone here knows the process for creating a pattern from a photo, or can help me with this project in general?

Best regards,
Helga

@Everyone who wants to help:
Please hurry up with your help so I can remove the pictures.
I’ll remove the pictures by tonight at the latest.

@Helga,
welcome to our community.
Uploading pictures that don’t belong to you isn’t allowed here.
I’ll remove the pictures by tonight at the latest. If someone can give you a tip before then, that would be great, but it’s not guaranteed.

Hi, I’ll get the ball rolling.

I see three different cables. Two cables on the front and one in the middle of the back. I think the back section could also be knitted in two parts, since the cable splits at the top and bottom. That way, the middle section could have been sewn together later.

  If I wanted to knit this jacket myself, I would proceed as follows: Find a pattern for a V-neck jacket in my size. Then find a suitable yarn. Based on the total number of stitches, I would distribute the stitches among the cables I’ve chosen.  The jacket was knitted entirely in purl stitches or the front was knitted in purl stitches. The front and sleeve bands are knitted on later, since they’re worked from the bottom up.

It’s a bit of a challenge—the cables, the pattern, and figuring out the stitch distribution—but it’s doable.

I wish you the best of luck. The jacket looks really great.

Hi,

That's right, the vest looks great.
To me it looks as if the vest is knitted seamlessly.
Start at the bottom, two pieces up to the cable. Then put everything on one needle and knit up to the armhole.
Then continue knitting the front side pieces separately. The back piece is knitted up to the opening again.
Then work the last section of the back separately on each side again.
Knit or sew the shoulders together at the top.
The bands are then picked up and knitted on.
I might search under traditional clothing; maybe there is something similar.

Wishing you lots of success.

@Helga,
is that enough information for you?
It would be nice if you could respond to that.

Okay, the photos are gone.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to post helpful information.
@Helga, good luck.
It might be helpful to contact the owner of the photos—see the text in the image. They might be able to give you more information.
