Knitting Amigurumi -- Knitting Animals -- Tips and Tricks?

Do you have any tips and tricks for knitting amigurumi or animals?

Well, I found the “magic ring” at the beginning and the “invisible decrease” very helpful.
The latter prevents holes in the crocheted piece through which the stuffing might show.
And, not to be forgotten: a sewing awl for sewing the pieces together.
For larger items that need to be washed occasionally, foam rubber scraps work great—you can find them as stuffing in pillows :)
