Hi Josefa, I hope you’re doing well, too, and everyone else here.
So far, we’re doing pretty well—everyone’s still healthy—but in the midst of the stress of moving, one disaster after another keeps happening.
It started right when we tried to register at the citizen services office. We had to book an appointment three months in advance, and then it was canceled again; we stood in line;
then we went to the bank to change our address—the system glitched at first, but then everything worked out.
Then our new washing machine arrived; the delivery guy carried it up to our third-floor apartment, unpacked it, and said, “I can take this right back.” The lid was broken.
Our kitchen was supposed to arrive today. The guys were standing downstairs in front of the door; I’d just gotten home and asked if they had anything for us. The guy was on the phone and didn’t answer me at all; then he supposedly rang our doorbell—of course he didn’t, since my husband was upstairs—and then they drove off again.
Maybe a new appointment sometime next week. I’m telling you, this is no fun right now.
But there was one positive thing, though. I had my first job interview today at a nursing home as a caregiver, and I get to do a one-day trial shift next week. Maybe it’ll work out. (I found the ad online.)
It was absolutely terrible for me—a nerve inflammation in my lower back is no fun at all. I couldn’t sleep for almost two weeks, let alone lie down or sit or stand properly. Since last Friday, things have slowly been looking up.
Oh oh, Andrea, it sounds like things have been pretty hectic for you with how your start in Germany is going. It’ll all work out in the end—you’ll see. That’s just part of moving sometimes. You’ll laugh about it later. In any case, I wish you all the best from now on and hope things work out with the job.
Inge, get well soon.
September was great for me. I visited my granddaughters again, and that’s always a highlight.
We’re in the middle of moving preparations.
It really caught us off guard: a broken power line, and a different apartment we can move into starting October 20.
If it weren’t for the furniture, we could just haul our stuff over.
Plus, I have to get rid of the kitchen, since I can’t take it with me, but it has to be removed from the apartment.
Andrea, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for your job interview.
Moving isn’t fun. I hope I never have to do it again. But afterward, everything’s new, and that’s nice too.
September was pleasant for me. Unfortunately, there’s still a lot of work at the store due to various program changes, and now we have a tax audit coming up as well.
Other than that, I went to my first flea market, and we also went out to eat at a beer garden again. I’m trying to get some normalcy back into my life and stop just holing up at home all the time. The sun really spoiled us in September—we spent a lot of time in the garden, biking, and just lounging on the patio.
It was a stressful month, but it ended on a positive note. My mother’s estate has finally been settled. My sick mother-in-law is finally allowing us to arrange care for her, which makes a lot of things easier.
I finally have a little more time for myself and my favorite hobby: crocheting.
Andrea, things really seem to be going wrong for you right now, but keep your chin up! I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed for you, including for your job application.
My September? Finally getting to experience a concert with a large choir and an orchestra in a packed monastery church again was a truly special experience. And we’re traveling more again, still wearing masks, of course—which is definitely a good thing, given how crowded the trains are getting.
As far as crafts go, the month wasn’t particularly successful: Two pot holders are finally all finished and have been given to their new owners, but mostly Sonja’s cheeky DF sheep kept tripping me up. It was supposed to be finished today, provided my hands cooperate.
