Flat triangular scarf

It’s not exactly the best thing ever, but I took a chance and knitted this scarf off the top of my head without a pattern. The important thing is that it keeps me warm and goes well with my winter jackets. I didn’t want it to be too long anyway, because having something around my neck makes me nervous—I just can’t stand that—but in winter, you’ve got to keep your neck warm. That’s why we make things ourselves so they work for us :-)

The tassel is great. What do you call it? Pom-pom? Fringe tassel? Tassel?

Thanks, Josefa—that’s what we call a pom-pom here :-) And you’re right, it’s not completely flat, but it’s exactly how I wanted it—that’s the beauty of DIY: you can make it just the way you like it :-)

I always thought pom-poms were round, with strands sticking out in all directions, not just down?

Josefa, technically speaking, what I made here is called a “Trottel,” but what people call it in everyday life depends on the region and the dialect—and around here it’s just a “bommel,” like anything made of wool that dangles around :-) Franconians tend to be a bit tight-lipped by nature and like to swallow the occasional letter when they speak, and that goes for some technical terms, too :-)
