I’m brand new here.

I don’t know if it’s customary, but I’ll go ahead and introduce myself briefly.

Name: Kirsten
Living in: Duisburg
With: My partner and our two children (4.5 years old and 1 month old)

I’ve been crocheting since November 2013 and have made various hats, flowers, animals, and a baby blanket since then.
So I’m doing pretty well already. Next, I want to learn how to knit.
But for now, I’m sticking to crocheting. Right now, I’m working on a lace scarf for myself. It’s going to take forever, though. For one thing, it’s pretty wide, and for another, I don’t have much time right now. But it’ll be finished by next winter. ;)

Other than reading, I don’t have any other hobbies.


 

Hi Kirsten from Duisburg, mom of two :- ). A small child probably needs all your attention. No wonder you don’t have any time :- ) Did your pregnancy inspire you to start crocheting? What’s a typical day like when you have small children?

I’d wanted to learn to crochet for ages, but I never managed it. Then my mom showed me again, and suddenly it all clicked.

I’ve been hooked on yarn ever since.

When I went on maternity leave, I had plenty of time. My son goes to preschool, so I’d sit on the sofa in the mornings and make beautiful things.

Now I can only crochet when my little one is asleep or when both kids are asleep at night.

With two little kids, there’s always something going on. But it’s nice. :)

Hi Kirsten, did you have twins by any chance? : )

No. I have a son who’s four and a half years old and a daughter who’s now one month old.

My son goes to bed at seven. If I’m lucky and my daughter falls asleep early too, then I have time to crochet. :)

Oh. I know that feeling all too well. You really have to be lucky for the little ones to fall asleep, and it doesn’t matter how often you think about a system. There’s no system that works 100% of the time. Sometimes they sleep, sometimes they don’t—it’s just a matter of luck.
