Desperate over treble crochet stitches

Hi

I’m actually pretty good at crocheting and have made a lot of things already. But whenever a pattern calls for treble crochet stitches, I just get so frustrated. Even the videos on YouT** don’t help me.

My problem is working off the loops of the treble crochet stitches. Two yarn overs on the hook, insert the hook, pull up the yarn, and work off the loops. But for me, the loops on the hook pull together so tightly that I can’t get through them. I really don’t know how this is supposed to work. But it seems to work great for you all, right?

Does anyone have a video where you can see it done really, really slowly? Or a detailed picture?
I’m really at my wits’ end here ;)

Hi there

You pull through in steps of 2, so 3 times in total. If that’s not the issue, you’re holding the working yarn too tightly, but I can hardly imagine that being the case.
Best regards

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I tried working off two loops at a time. It’s the second loop on the hook that keeps tightening up.
Really strange.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I tried working them off two at a time. It’s the second strand on the needle that tightens up.
Really weird.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I tried pulling through two loops at a time. It’s the second loop on the hook that tightens up so much that I can’t pull through it.
Really strange.

Hi,

no video here, but HUGE pictures instead (click on them):

And here’s a little tip: if stitches tighten up (for whatever reason), it often helps to turn the hook. That happens to me a lot with the bullion stitch.

Best wishes, Marion

Hi,

the picture tutorial that Schneckenkind posted is good!
If the second loop tightens up for you, I think you might not have picked it up correctly.
Could you maybe post some step-by-step photos showing what your yarn overs look like on the hook? Then it’ll be easier to say what the issue might be.

After lots of practice and trying things out, I’ve now figured out what my mistake was: I was wrapping the yarn overs around the hook the wrong way, so the yarn tightened up when pulling through ; )

Thank you so much for your help!
