Dear users, dear authors,
who among you has ever been to a needlework museum and would like to share your experience?

I haven’t been to a needlework museum yet, but I did visit the Sewing Machine Museum in Gerolhofen, Lower Franconia—there are some real treasures there! I live just 25 km away and had no idea for a long time that such a museum existed. I took some pictures and even got permission to share them online. What did the director say to me back then? “Pictures like these online are the best advertisement for our museum.” If Josefa allows it, I’ll share some here.

Best regards, Inge

If the photos are yours and the museum director has given you permission, then you’re welcome to upload them here. :-)

Thanks, Josefa—here are a few photos from the Sewing Machine Museum in Gerolzhofen in the Steigerwald:

a few very old sewing machines; the flat one at the bottom, which looks like a turntable, is one of the first ever built

a button-making machine—as far as I remember, that’s what was used to make buttonsa fabric shop

the “Holztrum” ;-) is a fulling press

I just checked the map to see where it is. But unfortunately, it’s quite a ways off the route to my relatives in Franconia. Too bad—I would have been interested.

Thanks for the great pictures of the sewing machines.

Yes, it’s right in the heart of Lower Franconia, and right in the Steigerwald—a wonderful spot for a vacation, too. I always say that where we live, others go on vacation :-)

Best regards, Inge

Thank you for the impressive photos. I’m always interested in things like this—how things used to be.
That sewing machine at the very bottom of the three-photo set looks a lot like my mom’s “Pfaff.” I practiced on it once when I was a kid—it wasn’t that easy with that belt drive. But it was interesting.
