I’ve started a big English paper piecing project

I can’t say yet whether it’ll be pillows or another quilt—it depends on how my hands cooperate. Some of the hexagons are already basted, while others haven’t even been wrapped around the templates yet, but that’s the great thing about English paper piecing—you can work on it whenever you feel like it, or take a break now and then. For me, the process itself is a kind of goal, because it’s soothing and a wonderful way to relax.

Wow, that looks like a lot of work....
Or maybe it’s meditative.... ☺
What exactly is “lieseln”?
Do you then sew it with a machine?

No, it’s pure handcraft.
Just google “Lieseln” and you’ll find all about it there.

When finished, pieces like these might look something like this

Wow, that looks like a lot of work. I hadn’t heard the term “lieseln” before either.
I always thought of patchwork. But it already looks great.
Learned something new again. Good luck with it.

....and I was just thinking you’d finally get to your sewing machine 😊

So, almost all of them—except for 56—are basted; there are 226 in total so far, but I don’t know yet if that’s it or if I’ll make more.

So, since last night, I’ve also known what I’ll sew with the hexagons—it’s going to be a pond scene.
I basted the last hexagon a little while ago, but I won’t start sewing them together today; my fingers need a break first :-) There are now 245 hexagons in total; today I made another 17 in a matching color that I need for the picture.
The note tells me how many of each color I have, which is why there are numbers.

So, the pond design is done using the Liesel method, but it’s not quite finished yet—it still needs to be mounted on the background fabric and quilted, but I won’t get to that
until I have access to my machines again.

Awesome! That really looks like a lot of work, but it was definitely worth the effort. I love the result.

May I ask how exactly you manage to get the hexagons so uniform?

I have a punch like this—you can use it to cut out the hexagons very precisely. Just Google “hexagon punches,” and you’ll find them. This is mine, and it makes my work a lot easier.
