Crocheting figures with yarn cakes

My question is, can you also crochet figures with yarn cake yarn? Has anyone tried this yet? I have a lot of leftover yarn now, and for once I didn’t want to crochet shawls.
So far, I’ve been using cotton yarn for my crochet figures.

The only things I can imagine making with it are those kind of floppy figures.
For sturdier figures, the cotton-acrylic blend might be too soft.

I’m not really a figure crocheter, though.

If you use the smallest hook possible and crochet very tightly, it works! Why not just give it a try?

I crocheted this octopus from the leftover yarn of a four-ply Bobbel using a 2.5 mm hook.

That actually worked quite well.

I also have some Bobbel yarn left over. I might knit doll clothes with it.

Crocheting figures with cake yarn works really well....
I’ve tried it quite a few times... It’s just a little “tricky” to wash.... Cotton can usually go in the washing machine, but cake yarn doesn’t work quite so well that way....
