Do you have a first-grader, a child changing schools, or a child starting kindergarten or daycare this year?

is starting school, changing schools, or starting preschool or daycare something you’re dealing with this year?

My two granddaughters are starting school this fall. Unfortunately, preparations have been quite limited due to COVID-19. Back when my grandson—who is two years older—was starting school, he got to spend a “taster day” at the school, his school goodie bag was made at preschool, the preschoolers went on a special field trip, and there was a big farewell party at the end. Unfortunately, the girls won’t get to experience any of that. They’ll be going back to kindergarten at the end of May, but there won’t be time for any of those activities—or, in some cases, they won’t be held at all for safety reasons. What a shame.

Oh yes, our grandson is starting school this year. The blank for his school cone is already up in the sewing room. Grandma is sewing it.

Unfortunately, things at his preschool are also on the back burner, just as Ruthk mentioned above. The plan is for all the older preschool children to be allowed back to preschool, but the field trips are all still postponed.

Our youngest granddaughter was supposed to start daycare at the end of April. That fell through.
Our eldest is starting school in September. 
And the middle one is also at home. 

Nobody knows how all of this will continue.

My second-youngest is supposed to start school this year... since the date is in mid-August, I’m assuming it’ll be a very small-scale start with just our immediate family... if there’s even a proper start at all...

Both girls started emergency childcare today, since I have to really “get back to work” on my files, plus my mom (my part-time helper 😊) won’t be available at my translation office starting June 10 (knee surgery...) and I have to take over her work as well. That requires some training time and reorganization...

Today, 15 out of just under 100 children were at kindergarten...

Oh right... I forgot half of it...

The preschool children are unfortunately missing out on so much.
Their school orientation day was supposed to take place on the first Tuesday of the coronavirus closures 🥴
The trip to the zoo was also canceled...
As was a visit to the museum...
And there won’t be a sleepover at kindergarten either 😢

How are things going right now?
