The issue with the upper thread

Hi, my sister gave me her AED NM 510 as a gift, but unfortunately without the instruction manual.

So I taught myself how to thread it using videos. :) I think I got it right.

But when I’m sewing, the upper thread keeps breaking. It also gets tangled around the bobbin case. I’ve attached a picture. I haven’t been able to sew anything yet because the machine jams right away. 



Is this how it’s supposed to look? I also took some pictures of how the upper thread is threaded, in case that’s helpful.

I’ve already replaced the needle and adjusted the thread tension. It’s worth noting that the machine has hardly been used.

I’d start by thoroughly cleaning the machine, because even if it’s been sitting for a long time, it’ll be full of dust. A drop of sewing machine oil on the key parts can’t hurt either—then check the tension, both the upper and lower thread tension. If the tension is set too high, the thread will break easily. The bobbin thread tension is adjusted on the bobbin case—there’s a small spring with a tiny screw there that lets you set the tension, but please don’t make it too loose, or the sewing machine won’t work properly. If it still doesn’t work, you’ll need to take it to a sewing machine shop to have it checked out.
