My
crochet hook just broke! I have a huge stash of hooks, but for some reason, the RIGHT one isn’t among them. The size is right, but the handle isn’t. It’s enough to make you cry.
Next time I buy new hooks, I’m going to stock up on 3 or 4 right away. And then I’ll have them lying around here until the end??
Have you ever had a silly problem like this?
The handle on my thinnest crochet hook once broke off. And I couldn’t get a replacement right away either. Trying to glue it back together with superglue and hot glue didn’t work. So I wrapped the broken spot really thickly with tape and have been using it that way ever since. So for about 15 years now *laughs*
Other than that, I haven’t had any other notable accidents. My dog once got my favorite knitting needles (Knitpro, the square wooden ones) between his teeth—and no amount of gluing helped then ;-) .
Oh Petra, I feel for you!
I’m still crocheting here with my grandma’s Inox hooks, but my red size 2.5 is wobbling alarmingly :-\/
And those new “toothbrush” hooks (as I call them)—I just can’t work with them...
Yeah, definitely: make sure to grab 5 of them right away when you find the right hooks—even if they end up sitting there
until the end of time :-)
Yes, that’s happened to me too. Very annoying. It also always seems to happen right in the middle of a project, on the weekend, or so late at night that all the stores are already closed...
Since then, I’ve been using crochet hooks with soft grips where the metal extends all the way to the end of the handle, so it doesn’t stop halfway through the grip. That way, nothing can break.
Bending, on the other hand, is a different problem altogether... Depending on how "soft" the grip is, the metal tends to bend. At least for me. There’s always something. *laugh*
I swear by the addi swing, but they break all the time. Every 1–3 months I need a new hook.
Oh well. But at least my wrists don’t hurt anymore :) So I’m happy to put up with the broken hooks.
Thanks to Häkelkeks, I have a good stash of them, too. And if one ever breaks, a friendly email to addi gets me a replacement
I agree with Streifegetier—I’ve been using the Addi Swing for 2–3 months now and I’m very happy with it. At first, I crocheted with simple metal hooks, but those always made my wrists hurt; that doesn’t happen with the Addi Swing! Unfortunately, they do break every now and then or come loose from the handle—there’s nothing you can do except reorder them. Just send an email, and in no time at all, you’ll have a new one sent to you. So I have to give Addi a big thumbs-up for acting so quickly to keep the customer happy.
If you don’t have any other hook, you’ll just have to make do :D until you get the new one.
Yeah, that’s happened to me a few times, too. The first time, I didn’t have a spare hook either. Totally annoying. Now I always keep a spare at home—especially for sizes 2 and 3. :-)
