It was so quiet and low-key—boring for some, but for my husband and me, it was relaxing and just right. Yesterday I sewed a curtain, and today I made myself a cardigan; my youngest daughter gave me the fabric as a Christmas gift.

For us, it was sooooo wonderfully boring too.

A New Year’s Eve concert at church, a nice meal at home just the two of us, and we watched a great movie.

Yesterday, I did some knitting on the sofa and went for a lovely walk in the sunshine. Today, normal daily life starts again.

Since I wasn’t feeling 100%, I sent my husband off to see friends by himself while I lay on the sofa in my sweatpants and went to bed at 11.

Anton slept through the night, and my husband had a good time, too. It didn’t go as planned, but that’s okay.

I wish you all a healthy New Year.

We had a couple of friends over on New Year’s Eve, and we ate raclette and chatted.
So it was pretty low-key, too.
Little Leo was in bed by 8 and didn’t notice any of it.
But he started crying at 11:45 p.m., so I didn’t spend the countdown with the others—instead, I was in bed with my son, breastfeeding him. That was fine, too :)

It was “boring” for us, too—and lovely! We still have our friend from the north visiting (which is why I’m not around here as much as usual).

We had homemade vegetable chips (very tasty!), home-baked crackers (also tasty), and red wine. Nice conversations, accompanied by a music program on MDR:

Nothing spectacular, but exactly the way we like it.

I wish everyone a wonderful start and all the best for 2020.
I was starting to think we were the only ones celebrating alone at home.
My husband and I also curled up together on the sofa and watched the New Year’s Eve show on TV. It was quiet and relaxed—we had some snacks and drank cider—and at midnight we Skyped with my parents to toast the New Year and congratulate my dad, whose birthday was on January 1st.
After that, we went to bed—I had to work, after all.

Wollwunder Petra, it really looks cozy at your place, and that delicious cake—mmm, yummy.
Arni , that’s not so great to hear. Well then, get well soon. Things can only get better.

I can relate: Just the two of us at home, watching the movie “Unterm Birnbaum” on TV and drinking tea, listening to the bells from Andermatt on the radio (the bells of our Reformed church have to stay silent for now because of the church renovation), and going to bed shortly after midnight… Yesterday morning we attended the New Year’s service, and today we went on a winter hike:

The only time I can remember this much snow on New Year’s Eve was when I was a kid in the Allgäu.

It was magical. And the weather was so nice, too. You definitely don’t want to stay cooped up in the living room—you just want to get outside. Wonderful.

It’s just as beautiful here, but very cold without the snow.

I wish everyone a great start. I celebrated in the countryside with my parents—knitting with my mom, playing games on the side, eating fondue, and watching fireworks with the neighbors on the street at midnight. Then, after midnight, I kept knitting and went to bed pretty late. It was very cozy, pretty quiet and peaceful—exactly as I’d hoped.
I’m now on vacation to make up for all the overtime I worked before, and I’m continuing to enjoy the peace and quiet we have right now.

Thanks for your comments! What you can’t see in the pictures is the thick, wispy blanket of fog over the low-lying areas, where we’re stuck in it every day—and, of course, not a trace of snow!
