Christmas Market 2019

Do you enjoy visiting Christmas markets, or do you sell your items at them?

Every now and then, I really enjoy going to a Christmas market. However, I prefer the small craft markets where it’s not so crowded.

I’m happy to donate a few things I’ve crocheted myself to Christmas bazaars, but I don’t like standing out in the cold all day selling them.

I spent the whole of last week at a Christmas market—working as a vendor at a clinic—I wouldn’t have wanted to stand outside in the cold either. It was very interesting—lots of nice people and conversations, but also lucrative.

I feel the same way as Ruth. I like Christmas markets when there’s a lot of craftsmanship involved. Otherwise, I much prefer the small craft or art markets.

We’ve already been to a few markets to browse—and we’re heading right back to a great market in Marbeck, which is lovingly organized privately on a farm there and has grown quite large over the years.
I, too, really enjoy markets featuring arts and crafts.
I’m sometimes surprised at how affordable handmade items are, especially at the smaller markets—last weekend there was a small market held on an old farm that had been converted into an inclusive restaurant. There were sooo many great things there for very little money—I just had to grab some hand-sewn gnomes and homemade cookies (they were delicious...).

It was a lot of fun again, and I had some great encounters and conversations.

We also went to the beautiful Christmas market in Marbeck. It really has a romantic Christmas atmosphere! Unfortunately, we won’t be able to make it to the forest Christmas market in Velen this year. I don’t like the big markets in the cities. There, you just end up pushing your way through crowds and can’t see anything at the stalls.

Yes, Marbeck is just great... we always eat the buckwheat pancakes from the local heritage association there. I also really liked the sing-along hut by the pond—I think that was the first time it was there.
And the flickering real candles along the paths... the resting spots by the wood fires... it’s truly lovely every time.

Do you know the market at Raesfeld Castle? That was on the second weekend of Advent. The atmosphere there is also very nice.

Personally, I don’t like the market in Velen quite as much—we often skip it.
