Crocheting pot holders: Tips and tricks?

What tips and tricks do you have for crocheting pot holders?

Does anyone else have anything to add?

It’s best to use heat-resistant material for pot holders. There’s even special “pot holder yarn” available for this purpose. You also shouldn’t choose yarn that’s too thin, so you don’t burn yourself. The pot holders shouldn’t be too small either, and their shape should be simple—no dangling parts. Personally, I prefer pot holders that you can slip on like a glove.

If the pot holders are a bit larger, you can also use them as trivets to quickly set down a hot pot until you’ve grabbed a proper trivet. But then (as Ruthk mentioned above), they should be made from a thicker yarn. Back in my school days, we called it “school yarn,” which is still available today.
