Dear users, dear authors,
What material do you use/prefer for scarves / infinity scarves?

I like working with a cotton-polyacrylic blend.
Depending on the season, I use anywhere from 2 to 5 strands.

I really enjoy working with a merino/silk blend or merino with yak.

There are also some really great cotton blends.

For my new project, I’ve been knitting with a blend of wool, cotton, and linen. It feels great—nice and soft, and doesn’t itch at all.

No matter what yarn it is, it has to be really SOFT. I can’t stand anything around my neck that scratches or prickles in any way. That’s why I could never just use any old wool yarn for scarves and infinity scarves, no matter how beautiful the color is. It has to pass the “stroke test” on my skin first. When it comes to types of wool, I suppose everyone has their own preferences—but cashmere and merino are still my favorites. Although the other yarns and yarn blends mentioned here are certainly very nice to the touch as well. Too bad there isn’t a “feel patch” here on the computer screen :-)

I hope you all have a wonderful day.
Best regards—Ina

Ina, I feel exactly the same way! First, I have to test the material against my neck, and heaven help it if it’s even a little scratchy! Luckily, there’s still plenty to choose from!

I’m knitting a lot of scarves right now, and I’ve realized that it’s not just the softness of the yarn that’s important to me, but also the yardage.

If the yarn has a high yardage, my scarf turns out lighter. Since I usually make them about 180 cm long, I think it’s important that the scarf isn’t too heavy.
