Replacing Worn-Out Heels on Knitted Socks



This is what two pairs of my husband’s socks look like—or something like this. I’d like to replace the worn-out boomerang heel, but I’m not quite sure what the easiest way to do it is. I’d really appreciate any help!

Yes, exactly—that’s how I’d do it, too. That method should work very well for a hole like that.

Wollefaden and mowi19: thank you very much for your advice. I know about grafting stitches, but actually I’d like to replace the whole heel with a reinforced one. I’m afraid the grafting stitch won’t be durable enough.

Hi Wollbaerli, I hope you’ve already solved your problem, but I’ll tell you anyway: I would cut out the heel in such a way that you can pick up the stitches before and after it, and then knit in a wedge toe. 
You can use the rows between the decreases as a guide, based on the heel that is still there. 
Don’t let the toe end in a point; instead, graft it together with Kitchener stitch when there are 8 to 10 stitches on each side.

I’d also like to knit in a new heel right away, but I’m not quite sure how. The videos on this aren’t helping me! Maybe one of you has another idea besides unraveling everything.
