I haven’t had my scissors sharpened yet, but that’s a good idea. It’s definitely better than buying new ones and throwing the old ones away. Unfortunately, there are hardly any scissor-sharpening services around these days.
I take my scissors to a specialty shop here in town to have them sharpened, because they were all far too expensive to just mess around with myself. Thankfully, we have a shop right here that does a great job for very little money. My large fabric shears cost about 100 DM back when I bought them, around 35 years ago, so I’m not taking any chances with them. The smaller ones weren’t exactly cheap either, and I see red if I catch anyone trying to cut paper or who knows what with my fabric shears. I have cheap scissors from the discount store for that.
I used to have a scissors sharpener in the family. I used to have all my knives and scissors sharpened by him. My ex-father-in-law—unfortunately, he passed away two years ago.
Right now, all my scissors are still very sharp. Good question—where do you go for that? I haven’t found anything like that here in Norway yet.
