Stitch holder

Dear users, dear authors,
what is a stitch holder and what is it used for?

These stitch holders are handy when you need to set aside a small number of stitches while knitting.
I’m currently using them for my knitted top-down raglan.

When it’s time for the sleeves, I can easily slide the stitches from the stitch holder onto the knitting needle.

I’m always learning something new here. I just asked Google about it and took a look. Wow, I’d never seen it in this form before. I have one that looks like a big safety pin, and that’s exactly what I called it.

But there are other shapes, too. Awesome! It’s going on my Christmas wish list now. :)

I still have some from my grandma. They are my favorites. 

I often use them when I have lots of UFOs. Then I secure the stitches with them and have the needles available again.
