Single crochet backward, but don’t make crab stitches

Hi,
I hope one of you can help me out. A pattern says I should crochet single crochet stitches backward, but they’re not supposed to be crab stitches. I’m really stumped and have searched a lot, but haven’t found anything about it. With slip stitches, I could imagine it working.
Several segments need to be crocheted. R1 ...... 3 dc in last ch, do not turn. R2 Crochet single crochet stitches backward along the row just completed, working only into the front loops, slip stitch into the center ring, change to color 2.
I understand that—the goal is to create a clean color transition, since the second segment is worked into the back loops.
But how do I crochet single crochet stitches backward without making crab stitches? Please help me.

the trick is how you draw up the yarn.
If you insert the hook from right to left, you get crab stitches, and if you go from left to right, you get single crochet stitches worked backward.

I forgot to mention: make sure that the loop you pull through ends up behind the stitch on the hook (on the right when crocheting with your right hand). With crab stitches, it’s the other way around—the loop ends up in front of the stitch on the hook.
