twisted stitches

What are twisted stitches, and what are they used for?

Twisted stitches are knit stitches that are worked by inserting the needle from the top instead of from the bottom.
These stitches can be used just like regular knit stitches.

Twisted stitches are also used when you want to create two stitches from one.

Twisted stitches come in knit and purl versions; when increasing, they prevent holes from forming. The fabric becomes slightly tighter, and you can also use this variation for patterns—it creates a different stitch appearance.

Until now, I was only familiar with right-twisted stitches, Hanny.
