Too many ideas for an Advent calendar

Hi everyone,

I’m slowly losing my mind and need some help. I’ve decided to crochet an Advent calendar—or rather, the little pouches for it. I started with little booties and then saw a really cute idea for regular pouches. I started on those. Two pouches are done. Then I discovered the ones with Minions. So now I have 3 little boots and 2 pouches, and I’m feeling the urge to crochet Minions.

Now that I’m unsure what I actually want to crochet… I’d like to join the crowd. Who’s crocheting what?

Love, flyowl

Hi,

why not mix it up? Who says an Advent calendar has to consist only of boots, little pouches, or Minions? Just make something completely unique that no one else has.

By the way, my shop also has a free pattern for little pouches.

Have fun crafting!

Best regards,

Mandy

I’ve decided to sew the little pouches because crocheting takes too long for me. This year, I’m using my crochet projects for door wreaths. My partner is getting one with Minions. Other relatives and friends are getting wreaths with Christmas decorations like candy canes, boots, and reindeer. Crocheting 24 little pieces just frustrates me. I’m just adapting the patterns and adding my own ideas.

grin.... I felt the same way—I didn’t want to crochet 24 pouches, little baskets, or anything like that. Instead, I crocheted a huge angel and made the dress so that you can put the little Advent calendar goodies inside.... I’m super happy with it, and my kids are already eagerly waiting for the angel to be set out with its surprises

I’ve made 5 Advent calendars so far. I embroidered all of them on evenweave fabric, in petit point. I admit that it’s very labor-intensive. But it’s a lot of fun, and the result is absolutely worth it. The little packages are attached to rings in the traditional way. What’s nice is that the calendars can happily stay hanging even after Christmas Eve, since they are real pictures. My latest calendar tells the holy story. The calendar before that consists of 24 numbers, each of which is a picture in its own right. My son has been using his calendar for 35 years (he was 3 years old at the time) and is not willing to pass it on to his children. I like to take inspiration from samplers. That way, each one is always unique. My family wouldn’t want to be without their Advent calendars anymore.
