Dear users, dear authors,
would you mind sharing some information with me about crocheting an oval?

Oval shapes are mainly needed when crocheting amigurumi, but also for shoe soles or the bottoms of baskets.
To crochet an oval, start with a foundation chain. You then crochet single crochet or double crochet stitches along the foundation chain, increasing stitches at the beginning and end of the foundation chain to create the curves (white lines).

Once you reach the end of the chain, continue crocheting along the underside of the chain (black arrow) until you return to the beginning.

In the following rounds, you continue to increase at the ends as you would for a circle, while no increases are worked on the straight sides.

There isn’t much to add to Ruthk’s post.

I crocheted an oval for a little basket. As was nicely demonstrated above, the secret is to crochet back along the underside of the slip stitch.

With a circle, you increase regularly throughout the round, at equal intervals.

With an oval, you increase on both sides. The size of the oval is determined by the number of chain stitches in the starting chain.
