Cable patterns

Cable patterns are always in style. Why are cable patterns so popular?
Let me know.

Cable patterns are timeless and somehow add a little something extra to a garment—even if the rest is knitted in stockinette stitch. Rustic clothing like vests and jackets, or even traditional folk costumes, simply need a cable pattern.

Cable patterns also make the knitting itself less boring without being too strenuous, because there are always a few “rest” rows in between where you don’t have to work the cables.

I like to knit cable patterns without a cable needle. Just by shifting purl and knit stitches, you create a pattern that looks like a cable. But I don’t need an extra cable needle.

I also think a cable adds volume to a knitted piece—like a loop scarf, for example. 

I really love cable patterns. Depending on the difficulty level, they can sometimes be quite a nice challenge. But some patterns are just sooo great!
Even simple cables give a knitted piece that certain something. I don’t really like crocheted cables—I think they look nicer when knitted.

I’m currently working on an advanced version of the cable pattern—cables made up of lace patterns.
