Does this refer to something like the Lanesplitter skirt? It’s all the rage here right now and is being knitted in all kinds of variations—I’ve already knitted two myself.
It’s a skirt knitted on the bias, featuring diagonal stripes. It’s knitted using two different yarns—a solid-color yarn and (usually) a gradient yarn—and comes in all sizes and variations. Here at our Knitting Café (Vienna), this skirt is currently a big hit, and I’ve already found patterns for it online.
Sofis-Welt: Thanks for the information. I just Googled it: it really looks good, but I still can’t quite picture it. Maybe I’ll try it for a doll sometime!
Once you get the hang of it, this skirt pattern is pretty simple—I actually knitted my skirts pretty much on the side. Maybe I’ll make a third one, with a pinstripe look.
And what about it stretching out? Since the skirt looks pretty tight and the knitted fabric is likely to be rather soft, I see a certain risk there—or am I mistaken?
I haven’t had any problems so far, but I think it depends on the material. I used a slightly stretchy yarn and made my skirts a little wider—just enough so they fit loosely—and added an elastic band at the waist. I haven’t noticed any problems with this among my fellow knitters either. But maybe the bagging issue tends to develop over time, and our skirts haven’t been off the needles for very long yet.
