Chenille yarn: What is it and what can you do with it?

what's the deal with chenille yarn?
Tell me about it.

I really like chenille yarn for stuffed animals because it’s so velvety soft, but you can still see the stitches (which isn’t the case with plush yarn). However, if you have to unravel something, it comes apart easily—meaning the velvety part falls off the yarn. Unfortunately, it’s usually pretty thick, and I prefer to work with thinner yarn. But there isn’t much to choose from.

Well… I won’t be crocheting with chenille yarn again anytime soon. That was really like crocheting blind. It was very hard to tell where the stitches were. But the result was really cozy, so I’m glad I stuck with it.

Looking back, I’ve also noticed that the yarn sheds quite a bit of fluff. I don’t really like that either. So it’s not necessarily suitable for toddlers. That’s why I’m keeping the bear for myself.

Chenille has a velvety look and is very soft; it comes in various thicknesses and is made from different materials. Acrylic/polyester chenille yarn is suitable for stuffed animals and decorative items (e.g., pillowcases), while cotton chenille yarn is well-suited for clothing.
