Fringe yarn

Now that the weather is getting worse, I won’t be as addicted to being outside anymore. Over the summer, my friend gave me some leftover fringe yarn because she was giving up her hobby.

A question for everyone: can you knit anything with it, or is it better for certain things?

Best regards, Biene

P.S. I’ve never worked with fringe yarn before.

Hi Biene,
apparently you can knit really nice things with it—scarves and stuff—it turns out very plush and feels a bit like soft fur. I once tried crocheting with fringe yarn, but it didn’t work at all. The actual thread is very thin, and then the other strands are just hanging off it; I don’t know how it’s made, but it doesn’t work for crocheting.
I don’t know exactly what you can knit with it—hopefully someone else will chime in on that.
It’s a shame your friend is giving up her hobby. I always thought enthusiasm for yarn and crafts lasts a lifetime. And yarn doesn’t really go bad, after all. Oh well.
Good luck to you, and all the best—even though I don’t know her—to your friend.

Hey, I just came across this post. I had the same problem crocheting with fringed yarn. It’s difficult, it doesn’t look great, and you have to hunt for the stitches. Since you crochet the right side row and wrong side row the same way, you never get that fluffy effect. When knitting, for example, you knit the right side row and purl the wrong side row as the stitches appear—that’s how you get the fluffy effect.

Best wishes, Bastelfan

my fringe yarn ran out of fringe, and then it became a pretty fuzzy mess—never fringe yarn again

You can also crochet with eyelash yarn — it’s a bit tedious, but it works! For example, a hedgehog.

My lion’s mane is also made from eyelash yarn

Hello,

thank you very much for the replies! Then I'll leave it for a few more months - maybe I'll come up with an idea for it at some point :-)

@lucygurumi, your amigurumis are beautiful :-)

Best regards, Biene

Hi...
a little tip from me...if you want to crochet or knit with eyelash yarn, you should dampen the yarn and smooth it down; that makes it easier to work with...you can see the stitches better then, for example when crocheting...that's how I always do it. Once the yarn dries, it’s wonderfully fluffy again...

Best wishes, your Jana from Nadelja-Designs

I mostly knit stuffed animals with it, but also scarves, infinity scarves, and arm warmers—though every now and then you should pull the fringes to the front.
Of course, you can also knit sweaters or jackets, but then you’ll quickly end up looking like a teddy bear yourself xD
