Triangle Shawl knitting pattern "Not Another Drop Stitch Shawl"

This is a knitting pattern for a triangle shawl, mostly worked in garter stitch. There is some more to it than only garter stitch though. The edges that look like they are done with drop stitch - they are something completely different. That's why I called the pattern "Not Another Drop Stitch Shawl". It is an easy pattern that might serve as a pattern for shawl beginners who wish to knit a cuddly shawl without running into frustration. It is relaxing to knit, something that you can work on while watching TV or attending knit night at your local library when you expect a lot of chatter going on around you.

The sample shown in the pictures was made out of Lana Grossa Meilenweit Special, a self-striping fingering weight sock yarn that is commonly used in my part of the world. Similar yarns are available all around the world. You can knit the shawl in any yarn, it needs not be a fingering. Gauge is not essential at all, and you can stop knitting whenever you think your shawl has reached the desired size. Make it a doll shawl or a huge shoulder wrap for yourself, just as you wish.

The name says it all. No drop stitches involved.

The shawl is worked mostly in garter stitch from bottom to top. It is a very relaxing knit that can be worked to any size and in any yarn. The yarn used in the sample was a fingering weight sock yarn, but feel free to use whatever you like. Despite all the garter stitch there are some parts where you have to be careful – the borders.

Difficulty level: easy (garter stitch, easy increases)

Yarn: Lana Grossa Meilenweit Special (80% wool, 20% nylon; 209m/50g; 229yds/1.76oz), 3 balls. Sample in a size of 170 x 60cm (68 x 24in) used 560m (612yds).

Needles: 4mm/US 6 circular needle

Notions: yarn needle, 1 stitch marker (optional)

Gauge: 22 stitches/48 rows in garter stitch = 10cm/4in. This is my gauge in fingering weight yarn. Exact gauge is not essential.

Size: can be worked to any size
