This is a step-by-step tutorial pattern for a hand crocheted doilies and coasters with fringe, which can be used also as a tea-cloth, coaster, place mat or hot bowl (plate) holder, table decoration. Excellent gift for Christmas and for any occasion. (For photos I used a beautiful Christine Purdy’s handmade pottery).

The pattern can be made up with any yarn. The instructions have been tested on several types of yarn and thread. If you use a different yarn brand or type, use an average hook size between the smallest and largest on the yarn label. Variations and experimentations are unlimited!

The pattern includes detailed photos with instructions how to make it -- useful for beginners. This pattern uses only basic stitches, so beginners should have no problem with it. It is written in English using Standard US crochet terminology (with UK crochet terminology if necessary).

Skill level: easy (you only need basic crochet skills).

Materials you will need:
1) crochet yarn (I used Premium Acrylic DK yarn): for small size doily 16 g, for medium size doily 25 g, for large size doily 70 g; 2) crochet hooks (I used hooks size 5 mm and 7 mm).

The approximate diameter of the crocheted doily is: – small about 22 cm (about 8.6 inch), flat base diameter about 10.5 cm (about 4.1 inch), – medium about 27 cm (about 10.6 inch), flat base diameter about 14 cm (about 5.5 inch), – large about 35 cm (about 13.7 inch), flat base diameter about 23 cm (about 9 inch). The size of the doily may vary depending on the type of yarn, hook size and how tightly you crochet.
