2019 Trends: The ’60s Are Back + Smartphone Pouches to Wear Around Your Neck

Dear users, dear authors,
the ’60s are back in style. What do you associate with that era?
And I’ve found another trend that might be easy to incorporate into crafts: smartphone pouches designed to be worn around the neck are apparently very popular. Surely these would be great to crochet, knit, or sew? And you could even embroider them.

Great idea

The ’60s generally appeal to me, too. I have lots of vintage items in my idea collection and have always wanted to revive some of them.

However, I haven’t dared to tackle clothing yet, since I wear the rather uncommon size 50 myself and don’t have anyone nearby who wears a 38/40 or 42/44 to try things on. I like to stop every now and then, make adjustments, and not rely solely on my mannequin’s measurements.

But there are also some interesting things in the accessories area—maybe I’ll take a closer look there.

So, the ’60s sound great, even though that was before my time.
As for the smartphone pouches to wear around your neck, I hope this trend catches on with all the girls who constantly carry their smartphones in their back pockets, where they regularly fall out... I know a lot of 12- to 14-year-olds who have a cracked screen... 

The ’60s... I could go on and on about them—that was my youth! I’ve always loved the hippie style—the colors, the flowers...
Unfortunately, I don’t make many patterns for clothing, but I’ll keep an eye on this. Designing a few accessories would definitely be fun! For example, a hippie-style smartphone bag?

Funny, I’ve actually thought about the smartphone thing too. I’m just still trying to figure out how to make something like that that’s actually functional. I mean, for most people, their smartphone is practically glued to their hand, and they run you over on the street because they’re so busy swiping that they don’t see anything else. It would have to be something you can open with a single motion. Maybe even with a transparent film over the display so you don’t miss a thing. Tricky!
