Knitting Socks

Hi,

I’ve never knitted socks before, but I’d really like to try. I definitely don’t want to use 5 needles, though—I can’t handle that. I was thinking of buying a CraSy Trio set for this. All these heel names mean nothing to me. What should I look for to make sure my first pair of socks turns out well? By the way, I can knit ;-)

Thanks for your tips!

Hi Michaela,

it’s really not that hard :-)
But I once saw a pattern here where socks are knitted completely
without a heel.
You should take a look.

Best wishes,

Birgit

Spiral socks are socks without heels. They’re knitted in the round using a set of double-pointed needles. But you could also use two circular needles. Experienced knitters can even do it with just one circular needle.

Try Googling “knitting spiral socks patterns”—you’ll find suggestions with patterns and detailed instructions.
You can also find patterns here on CP.
Maybe that’ll help you out.

I’ve had spiral socks before—a friend of my mom’s gave them to me as a gift. I didn’t really like them; if anything, then with a heel.

Socks without a heel—that reminds me of Finnish socks. You knit a circle first, then add the toe and the cuff. They’re called Hipsulaisen Karuselli. They’re really easy and quick to knit.
There’s also a group on Facebook.

I hope I was able to help you. Best regards!
