some of you probably still remember my 12 unicorn keychains.
They were supposed to be party favors for my oldest daughter’s birthday.
The girls were supposed to get the keychains, and the boys were supposed to get shower gel.
So much for that.
When the birthday party was over on Saturday night and my daughter handed out the little bags,
the boys (six of them) started yelling that they wanted a unicorn, too.
At first I thought they were joking. But no, they were dead serious.
At first, we all had a good laugh about it. But when it dawned on me what that
meant for me, the laughter faded.
So now I have to get back to making unicorns.
That’s just how it is with kids—always! When in doubt, boys are into “girl stuff” too, even if it’s pink and sparkly—I’ve had that experience myself as well. If you’d crocheted something “boyish” for the boys, the girls probably would’ve wanted that too.... It’s best to always have something neutral on hand for everyone!
In any case, it’s still a great compliment to you and your crocheting skills!
Heike, I totally get why you can’t stand the sight of unicorns anymore. ;-)
But I also think it’s a really great compliment that the boys like your unicorns so much they want one, too. You’re bringing them a lot of joy—and that surely motivates you and makes your work easier.
How old are the boys, anyway? (By the way, my son also liked to play with dolls and doll strollers—until someone once said that boys don’t do that. That really threw him off… I think he was 5 or 6 years old at the time.)
yes, the unicorns were a huge hit. With everyone. Even the parents.
The boys are 11 and 12 years old.
I was completely blown away when they whined that
they wanted a unicorn, too.
My daughter looked completely incredulous. At first, everyone thought it
was a joke. But no, it wasn’t.
Well, there’s no way around it—I have to get back to making unicorns. *sob*
I was so happy that I’d finished the 12. Although, actually, there were supposed to be
15.
