Crocheting a Blanket from Sheep’s Wool

Hello to all you hard-working crochet enthusiasts,
I recently bought a lot of sheep’s wool at the Polish market and would like to crochet a blanket out of it.
But to be honest, I’m not quite sure what the best way to go about it is.
I’ve already crocheted three squares and was thinking of making a lot more. .
What do you think? Do you have any other ideas?
And is it a good idea to crochet with two strands of yarn?
I’m looking forward to your suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Kakade,
I’m assuming the sheep’s wool is already spun, right? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have been able to crochet with it at all, would you?

So, if you want to crochet a blanket, granny squares are always a good idea—that way, you’ll have manageable little sections to work on.
Crocheting with two strands together—I actually like doing that sometimes. When I want a nice color contrast, or if a single strand is just too thin for whatever I’m making.
It just depends on how thick the yarn is—whether you should use two strands or not.
Take a look here; we have a whole thread dedicated to granny squares, as well as blankets and other projects.

Maybe you’ll find a few ideas there that you’ll like?
The posts at the top of the thread are relatively short, but further down I really let my creativity run wild—so
have fun reading :)

I’d also recommend making squares—no matter what pattern you use—otherwise the blanket will end up being too heavy.
Whether you use 1 or 2 strands depends on the thickness of the yarn.

Would you post a photo when you’re done? I’m really curious to see how you’ll make it :)

Sure, I’d love to. I’ve crocheted three squares so far. ;-) Then I’ll have to see how I can make the wool a little softer.
