Oval basket

Hi, I have a question. I need to crochet an oval basket. What’s the best way to make sure it turns out really oval-shaped? Thank you very much.

Basically, you crochet around a foundation chain

R0
Chain 25 + 1 turning chain
R1
24 single crochets (just 1 single crochet in each chain stitch), 3 single crochets in the last chain stitch, which makes the first curve
 - now continue crocheting along the underside of the chain, 1 single crochet in each chain stitch
and 2 single crochets in the last chain stitch (the last chain stitch is the one where you made your first single crochet

Starting from R2
just like with a circle, you also need to increase 6 stitches in each round; for a circle, this is done at regular intervals
for an oval, the increases are made in the curves, so increase by 3 single crochets per curve

In any case, this is how you crochet the oval base until it has the right length and width

then you just crochet upwards without increasing or decreasing any stitches

Choose your yarn carefully and use a crochet hook that isn’t too large so it will be nice and sturdy

What’s the advantage of an oval basket compared to a round or square one?
Does it just look better, or does it have other benefits?

It’s probably really just about the shape :) Oval is just a bit different :)
