Buttons apparently last longer with nail polish

This tip is new to me; until now, I’d only known the trick with candle wax that’s pulled over the sewing thread. I’m not sure if nail polish is a good idea, especially for delicate fabrics. Do any of you have any experience with this?

Nope, I’ve never heard of that.
I just know you can use nail polish to stop runs in stockings.
I’ve heard about the wax trick too,
but I just use Sternzwirn for buttons, and that works too.
