Hi! Can anyone recommend a pattern for a warm, cozy hat? I’d like to crochet one myself. It would be great if it were free. What’s the difference between an e-book and a pattern, anyway?
Hello Elifranke
You can find patterns for crocheted hats here:
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/haekelanleitungen-muetze
but they aren’t free.
The free patterns are here: https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/kostenlos
However, there isn’t a crocheted hat among them.
Maybe someone will still upload a free pattern for crocheted hats.
Just be a little patient.
A pattern can include an e-book (usually as a PDF file), but it doesn’t have to. It could also simply be a how-to video or just a single page with a graphic (for very simple things). An e-book can include a pattern, and of course e-books can also be books. But that’s not really a topic on Crazypatterns.
Since the topic has come up, I have to get something off my chest: While there’s no official distinction, I find the term “e-book” to be a bit of a stretch when it comes to simple PDF files. Strictly speaking, e-books are electronic books (individual patterns are really just booklets at most) that can be read on special e-book readers (e.g., Kindle). These aren’t in PDF format! Of course, it sounds great to offer an “e-book,” but in my opinion, it’s exaggerated and misleading.
I’ve already downloaded a few patterns here and read them on my Kindle. There are some (I won’t go into specifics) that are very poorly done, but there are others that are really well done. I think the line between a pattern, a booklet, and an e-book is very blurry. I’d give most patterns 4 stars if I were comparing them to actual books, and only a few would get 5 stars—the ones that are truly designed like e-books.
You shouldn't tar all patterns with the same brush unless you've actually ordered at least one from every seller in order to judge that.
My e-books, for example, are worked out in great detail, and I also place a lot of value on the graphic design. For complex patterns, they can easily be between 40 and 60 pages, including sewing patterns. Calling a pattern like that a "simle PDF file" feels derogatory to me and isn't justified.
As far as I can tell, you can also review patterns here on Crazypatterns

I don’t think it matters much—whether they’re called e-books, PDF patterns, booklets, or something similar.
As long as the pattern in question is easy to understand, well-written, sufficiently illustrated, and easy to follow, I’m completely satisfied.
