Your Oldest Handicrafts

Dear users, dear authors,
Krea_Tina uploaded a photo yesterday of a crocheted doily that appears to be quite old. Do you also have pieces like this that have “aged” over time? No, not unfinished projects—completed works. :- )
Are these “aged” pieces your own, or are they “heirlooms”?
Tell me all about them. :- )

We have more of these at home (just different patterns) :)

In this case, they’re heirlooms—I just don’t know how old they are, unfortunately… but definitely older than I am :)

I found this. My daughter used to play with it about 20 years ago.

My oldest piece is from my great-grandmother. It’s an embroidered cloth from her school days in 1879. Unfortunately, it’s been eaten by moths in a few places, but I still think it’s beautiful.

Today I found the pants, sweater, and hat that I knitted for my son’s monkey over 40 years ago.


It all looks pretty faded and worn out now, because the monkey was taken everywhere with him. I just haven’t been able to throw it away yet. ;-)

Of course, the monkey wasn’t wearing all of this at once. These are just the pieces I have left.

Both of these pieces came from some grandaunts or great-grandaunts. The knitted doily is made of very, very fine yarn, and the strip features many different knitting patterns. I don’t know whether it had any specific use or whether it was simply meant as a practice piece.

My mom knotted this rug in 1971 and gave it to me as a wedding gift. Unfortunately, she passed away a long time ago, but I still have the rug.
