Hello, everyone!

Does anyone have experience sewing with silk? I’m thinking about trying my hand at making a silk kimono and I’m a little nervous :D
What should I keep in mind?

Hugs and kisses, Olivia

Hi Olivia, unfortunately I don't have any experience sewing silk, but I found a link with some information for you
http://www.die-seide.de/tipps-zum-zuschneiden-und-naehen-von-seidenstoffen/
maybe you'll find something useful there
Specifically for sewing a silk kimono, I also have a link to a YouTube video
because I think we don't have a pattern for a silk kimono in the shop, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wESS6mfEGiQ
well then, good luck : )

The link I just shared is more like a kimono for cosplay,
for people who enjoy dressing up and experiencing other cultures, so to speak.
Here’s an even simpler video on how to sew a kimono,
but it’s in English.
Maybe you’ll find it helpful:

Wow, thanks so much!!

I have no problem with English—my husband is British and we live in Wales :)
My cousin loves cosplay, so maybe I can sew something for her too :)

I’ll get started right away!

I’d love to have a kimono too, but I’d rather not sew it myself :-)

@CreativBennet
I’m glad you liked my links. I hope you have fun sewing, and maybe you’d like to upload some pictures of the finished kimono.

I still don’t quite get this whole cosplay thing—so people go to all this trouble and then pretend they’re living in the past?

I’m thinking more along the lines of Japanese cosplay. That’s where you usually dress up as your favorite character from a manga, anime, or movie. There are some really talented cosplayers who put a lot of effort and money into their costumes so they can show them off at an event. The whole thing is just a lot of fun!

Yeah, exactly—that’s what my cousin does! She goes to conventions or concerts in her costumes.

I think that cosplay as a hobby takes a lot of time and probably money, too, and you have to put in quite a bit of effort, but if you like it and have fun with it, then it’s definitely a great hobby where you can be creative and meet lots of new people, too.
